This fascinating Museum, located within the impressive walls of the Bank of England, tells the history of the Bank from its foundation in 1694 to the present day. Its unique collections of coins, banknotes and artefacts are supplemented by audio-visual and interactive displays. Visitors can even handle a real gold bar!

England museum. Opening hours and tickets. Our museum is free to visit, with no booking or tickets required. We are open Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm (last entry 4.30pm), and until 8pm (last entry 7.30pm) every third Thursday of the month. We are closed on Bank holidays and weekends. Before your visit, please check if we have any upcoming planned closures.

In the time since officials at the Bank began considering a revamp of the only money museum in England and Wales, a string of museums have opened or been overhauled at a cost of more than £100m.
